Oorspronkelijk bereid door bloemen in water-alcohol oplossing te drenken, wordt Agua de Florida gebruikt als offergave om de geesten (spirits) op te roepen, voor zuivering van en bescherming tegen negatieve of kwaadaardige invloeden bij mensen en plaatsen, bij healingrituelen en als ingrediënt voor welbepaalde ‘baños de flores’ (genezende baden).
